Rock Textures, Canadian Shield, Doe Lake, Katrine, Muskoka, Ontario, August 2009

Image by bill barber (back later this month)
This summer I took of lot of detail shots which I can use as textures and foundations for abstracts. I’d like to share the first batch of images featuring close-ups of the Canadian Shield rock face along the new stretch of highway just outside of Doe Lake near Katrine in Muskoka, Ontario. Please feel free to use them as you wish. I’ll post other similar stuff from time to time.

The Canadian Shield, also called the Laurentian Plateau or Bouclier Canadien, is a massive geological rock shield covered by a thin layer of soil. It has a deep, common, joined bedrock region in eastern and central Canada and stretches north from the Great Lakes to the Arctic Ocean, covering over half of Canada. It also extends south into the northern reaches of the United States and east as far as Greenland.
